If you need someone to help you solve math problems, write an essay, or prepare for a test, the CLC is the place to go. Tutors are available by semester in most subjects taught at SVCC, including English, math, science, business, nursing, social studies, humanities, and developmental courses. The CLC services are provided at no cost to you, and while appointments are welcome, they are not necessary to use the Center. A student I.D. and your time are the only things needed to take advantage of the CLC services.
The CLC offers the following:
SMARTHINKING and Adobe Connect (online tutoring programs)
Blackboard Assistance (individual help with your online classes)
G-mail and SIS Assistance (help with how to use student e-mail and Student Information System)
Atomic Learning (online tutorials on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Blackboard, etc.)
Web Resources (additional computer resources to help student learning)
PLATO Learning Systems (online program that offers tutorials in most collegiate subjects)
Rosetta Stone (Spanish, French, and German)
The Comprehensive Learning Center will provide tutors with expertise in a wide array of subjects. If there are several students who request tutoring in a course-specific area, group tutoring will be provided. In some cases, tutors will attend classes and collaborate with instructors in order to provide the most useful tutoring sessions.
We also have tutors and student assistants on hand to help you in the Center. We welcome you to come in and use our state-of-the-art computers to complete assignments, search for articles, or complete Blackboard assignments for your online classes. If you should become stuck or need help while completing your work, all you have to do is ask one of our tutors or student assistants who are more than willing to help! If they are unable to assist you, they can direct you to resources that can help you with your assignments.
We also have a selection of textbooks for use in the CLC. If you have forgotten your textbook, or are unable to purchase a textbook for your class, you may borrow the textbook from the CLC. While we do not have textbooks for every subject, we do have a small selection that may be helpful for your classes.
The Comprehensive Learning Center is a part of the SVCC Bridges to Success Program, a Title-III sponsored program. The mission of the SVCC Bridges to Success Program, consisting of Comprehensive Learning Centers, Bridges Learning Labs, and advisor training, is to improve student retention and graduation rates by providing: 1) access to state-of-the-art computer resources, 2) academic support through individual and group tutoring, 3) cognitive skills training, and 4) one-on-one help to successfully meet the demands of college.
